Allocation
An allocation assigns an element to another one that realizes it – typically a function to the part that performs it.
Also known as: allocate
Allocations connect the functional architecture with the physical or logical one. In SysML v2 you write them directly:
allocate FA::IRR::F3::'F3.2' to LA::IRS::VU;
What for?
- Clarify responsibility: which part performs which function?
- Find gaps: a function without an allocation has no place in the system yet.
- Draw processes: the allocations of process steps yield swimlanes – one lane per performing part.
itemis PRISM generates allocation diagrams from them, draws swimlanes in action flows and reports unallocated functions as a model health finding.
