MBSE
Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) develops technical systems from one connected system model instead of scattered documents.
Also known as: Model-Based Systems Engineering
In document-based work, requirements, architecture and interfaces live in text documents, spreadsheets and slides – and drift apart. MBSE puts a system model at the centre, and documents, diagrams and analyses are derived from it.
What goes into a system model?
- Requirements and their derivations
- Functions and flows (behaviour)
- Parts, ports and connections (structure)
- Allocations: which function runs on which part
- Traceability between all of these
Typical hurdles
MBSE rarely fails because of the language. It fails because few people can read the model and diagrams are tedious to maintain by hand. Lightweight tools that generate views from the model and show them in the browser address exactly that – as itemis PRISM does.
